Recommended adhesive for Experienced installers and larger projects: we recommend using Titebond Fast Grab FRP Adhesive. This trowelable adhesive can increase your installation speed! You can also add our optional tinting packet, so that the adhesive is a darker color, and can replace the need for painting your substrate a dark color. Small gaps between tiles can happen during installation - and this darkened adhesive will help fill these areas, making them invisible.
You can use a smaller notched trowel than the recommendation on the Titebond product, but Slate-ish requires less adhesive, and you don’t want to have adhesive squeeze out between pieces. If you use this smaller trowel and still have a small amount of squeeze out - leave until completely dry and trim with a utility knife. If you smear adhesive on the surface of the Slate-ish tile, it will be difficult to remove.
Trowel on only as much as you can set before the mastic starts to dry. Start with a small area initially, until you get the hang of applying and adding tile!
Buy Titebond FRP Mastic:
We don’t sell this on our site, as it is often available to you locally, and shipping costs for something heavy like this can be significant!
We’d have to add a hefty upcharge to make this feasible, and we prefer to help you keep your installation costs down.
For small projects: Our 12sf Cases and each case of mitered corners include one tube of Clear 100% Silicone adhesive. This should be enough for one case - but if you need more, make sure it's labeled as "100% Silicone." Any brand in any color is suitable for your project, but we prefer clear.
Hot Tip: Make sure your hands stay clean of adhesive. Keep paper towels handy. If you transfer adhesive to the face of your tile, it may be visible and difficult to remove!
For both methods - Maintain Cleanliness: To ensure a neat and precise application, keep your hands free of adhesive. Avoid transferring adhesive to the tile's face, as it can be challenging to remove once it dries. Keep paper towels nearby for wiping your fingers as needed during the application process.
By following these guidelines, you can achieve a strong and durable bond with your loose tiles. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
